‘Crawia’ ydi gair ardaloedd llechi Gogledd Cymru am y fensys llechi a adeiladwyd dros y ganrif diwetha, y rhan fwya gan ffermwyr yr ardal. Ystyr y gair ydi ‘gwastraff’, a dyna beth oedd y darnau yma o lechi – gwastraff o’r chwareli llechi lleol na ellid eu defnyddio ar gyfer gwneud cynnyrch.

‘Crawia’ is a North Cymru slate quarrying area word for the slate fences built during the last century, mostly by farmers, and that can be seen all over the UNESCO slate landscape of Northwest Cymru. The meaning of the word is ‘waste’, and that is what these pieces of slate were – waste from the local quarries that couldn’t be used for the usual quarry products like roof tiles.
