Arweiniad i Cymru Cymraeg. A guide to Welsh Wales.

Segontium

, , , , ,

Remains of a roman fort, and the roots of Cymru.

Er mwyn deallt o ble ddaeth y Cymry, mae’n rhaid deallt effaith y Rhufeinwyr ar y rhan hon o’r ynysoedd Prydeinig, a sut yng ngeiriau Dafydd Iwan yn ei cân glasur ‘Yma O Hyd’ fe gadawon nhw ni’n “genedl gyflawn – a heddiw, wele ni!” (er – dyw’r stori ddim mor syml a hynny, fodd bynnag!). Mae Segontium yn un o’r llefydd gorau yng Nghymru i ceisio deallt mwy o’r hanes hwn.

Cadw yw’r sefydliad sy’n edrych ar ol Segontiwm – un o’r sefydliadau sy’n caru’r Cymraeg.

Gweddillion caer rhufeinig, a dechrau hanes Cymru.

If you want to understand how Cymru came into being, you have to understand the Roman influence on this part of the British isles, and how in the words of Dafydd Iwan in his unofficial national anthem ‘Yma O Hyd’ “the Romans left us as a complete nation – and today here we are!” (although – the story’s not that simple!). Segontium is one of the best places in Cymru to try and understand more of this history.

Segontium is looked after by Cadw, one of the organisations that care about Cymraeg.
